| Rene Ferdinands
is currently doing a PhD on the biomechanical principles of cricket. His
research includes an extensive video motion analysis of elite bowlers, and
the simulation of 2D & 3D human body models of batting and bowling, based
on the principles of inverse/forward dynamics. He is also a part-time lecturer in Biomechanics and Sport Skill Acquisition at the Centre of Sport & Exercise Science at the Waikato Polytechnic. Rene has also an extensive cricket background, and has played first-class cricket in New Zealand. Originally based in Australia, he represented the Australian U/16 and Victorian U/19 cricket teams as a junior, and played ten years of grade cricket in Melbourne. Having learnt much of his cricket under the tutelage of Sir Garfield Sobers, he is an all-rounder, performing as a top-order batsman and a spin bowler with the distinguished ability of bowling both wrist-spin and finger-spin. He is currently Captain-coach of the Midlands cricket team in Northern Districts (New Zealand). Also, he has over ten years of coaching experience, and makes himself available as an international consultant. |
