The Boston Red Sox and the Curse of the BaMBINO!

Yes, the Boston Red Sox. If you are a Yankee fan, then you can stop reading now. If, however, you live in Boston, you may want to put down the chowder and listen to a bit of your team's history.

The Boston Red Sox are a baseball team that plays in Boston Massachusetts. They've been playing at Fenway Park since 1912. Yes, this is a big deal. They play in the Eastern Division of the Major League Baeball's American League. They stated way back in 1901, when they were called the "Boston Americans". Later, in 1908, they were renamed the Boston Red Sox; probably because of the red socks they wore.

Other nicknames for the Boston Red Sox include "the sox", the "BoSox" or the "Olde Towne Team". If you're from New York, you probably have a whole other list of nicknames for this particular team that we won't get into right now.

The Boston Red Sox have won seven World Series titles. They have also won 12 American League Pennants and 7 Eastern Division titles. Nobody knows exactly why they had such a drought in between World Series wins, but we'll get into that a bit later.

Stars of the Boston Red Sox include Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters in baseball history. They even called the team the "Ted Sox" while he was a member. Other players of note include Fred Lynne (MVP), Ihiro Suzuki (he's from Japan if you haven't guessed), Bobby Doerr, Joe Cronin and Carl Yastrzemski. Of course, one of the most famous players for the Red Sox was a guy by the name of Babe Ruth. Now things get interesting.

The "curse of the Bambino" refers to the longest dry spell in baseball history. After trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1920, the Boston Red Sox would not win another World Series until 2004. They won FIVE world Series Titles until 1918. After the trade, they wouldn't see a World Series win until the next millennium. Wow. No wonder Boston Red Sox and Yankee Fans hate each other so much. Go Sox!
