America's Team, The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team but sometimes are better known for their cheerleaders rather than their football. The Dallas Cowboys play football in the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League. They are based in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas. The team right now plays their home games at Texas Stadium in Irving, but they are scheduled to move to a new stadium in nearby Arlington, Texas in the year 2009.

The Dallas Cowboys joined the National Football League as a 1960 expansion team. The Dallas Cowboys are the most successful football team of todays football. Since 1960 the Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowls and eight Conference Championships. The Dallas Cowboys have more wins on Monday Night Football than any other National Football League team; totalling forty wins. They hold NFL records for the most consecutive winning seasons, 20 from 1966 to 1985, and the most seasons with at least 10 wins. The team has earned the most postseason appearances 28, the most appearances in the National Football Conference Championship Games, and the most Super Bowl appearances, a total of eight, two more than any other National Football League team.
All of The Dallas Cowboys' success and popularity has earned them the nickname of "America's Team". An article on Forbes Magazine's website, published September 13, 2007 lists the Cowboys as the most valuable sports team in the world, with an estimated value of approximately $1.5 billion.

Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys franchise on February 25, 1989. Jerry Jones immediately fired longtime head coach Tom Landry and hired head coach Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones could not get along. Some say they were too much alike. Jerry Jones then fired Jimmy Johnson and was able to snag Bill Parcels out of retirement. Bill Parcels has been the head coach ever since, reviving a team that seemed to have lost its steam for a little while. With Tony Roma at the helm as the Dallas Cowboy quarterback it seems that Dallas could be heading for another championship game.
