The Fight for Baseball Glory: Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers is like any typical baseball team, one that experiences ups and downs in its quest for the coveted Major League title. Throughout the years, this team has shown great fighting spirit and it has bounced back from many disappointments to become one of the most successful teams in the Major League. The Detroit Tigers was first known as a baseball team to reckon with when they won the pennant for the American League in the year 1907. This was due to a spectacular line-up that was made even more impressive with the addition of legendary ballplayer Ty Cobb.

However, the Detroit Tigers did not remain consistently on top as they struggled to win games in the next few years. It was even a pretty close call for the Tigers when they lost the World Series to the Red Sox by a single game. It was in the 1930s that the Detroit Tigers started to rise up to overcome their difficulties, and it had consistently remained one of the best teams in the Major League ever since. The decade saw some of the best players in the league joining the team, like Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg and Mickey Cochrane. This group of players gave the franchise a spectacular decade with a few appearances at the World Series championship and a World Series title in 1935.

After the 1935 victory, the Detroit Tigers had another decade of ups and downs with another World Series win being earned in the year 1945. Thereafter, they had some disappointing years, and despite their relentless effort to climb back to the top of the league, nothing significant was achieved. However, the Detroit Tigers managed to win more World Series titles in 1968 and 1972. They also captured the title in 1984 after the team was sold to Domino Pizzas owner, Tom Monaghan.
