Equipment needed to play footbag
Footbag equipment is very minimal if you wish to play. Footbag is also more commonly known as hacky sack, and due to the lack of required equipment played by many people worldwide. It’s also commonly referred to as a college game since you tend to see college kids playing more often then any other age group.
The main footbag equipment that is needed is the actual footbag. The footbag is a small bag filled with different materials to give it a pliable feel. Common materials that are used are different sized beads, in some cases a finer grain bead with more of a sand consistency, in some footbag equipment they use small plastic grains that are more of a cylinder shape. In most cases when you first purchase a footbag it is quite full and lacks the give needed to play so it is a common practice to put a small hole in the bag and let some of the materials out until it gets to a more maneuverable consistency. Aside from the stuffing the bags also come in a variety of outer materials, some of the cheaper ones come in a false leather with two tone color and stitched together similar to a baseball, these ones tend to make it difficult to adjust the amount of filling. The other more commonly used and more durable style are a fabric weave, usually a cotton or wool, possibly hemp material, due to the mesh weave it is quite a bit easy to adjust the amount of filling in these bags by putting a small hole at the top and sewing it back together once finished.
Shoes are the only other real footbag equipment that is needed in most cases. If you plan on getting shoes to use specifically for playing footbag you will need to determine the style that works best for you. For footbag equipment it is wise to avoid boots since the toe of the boot tends to stay hard and round making it a bit difficult to control the direction of the footbag, boots tend to have more weight as well which could tire you out quicker then a nice light shoe. The other benefit of wearing shoes other then the weight is the shape of the toad, it is generally a bit flatter then a boot which gives a good place to catch and launch the footbag.
