Kickball Equipment for the Serious and Not So Serious Player
Kickball has been a sport that has either thrilled or weakened the knees of gym class participants throughout the history of American competitive sports. Kickball is thought to have started by American soldiers who passed time during an African occupation in 1942. Since then, it has become a very popular playground sport and now an even more popular adult league sport as well. Believe it or not, depending on your style of play, there is a difference in the kickball equipment that will be needed.
If a good time with no strings attached is your cup of tea, playground kickball equipment will be the way to go. Playground kickball equipment is very liberal in what can be used for bases. Anything that has a flat surface that will not break when stepped on and can be fastened to the ground or is heavy enough not to move during game play. If materials were not available for bases, many children would have to rely on natural ingenuity such as using landmarks as bases. For example, first base may be marked as a tree while second base is a park bench, and third base is a fire hydrant, and a nearby fence marks home plate. So rather than running onto the bases, they merely need to be touched before the runner is caught.
Tournament style kickball equipment is much more regulated however, to conform to rules as established by the world adult kickball association. In tournament game play, the field must be meticulously inspected for safety and the appropriate diameters to set the bases. Each team must be registered with the world adult kickball association and obey all of the rules set forth by the association. Tournament kickball equipment includes jerseys and uniforms, an official regulation kickball, athletic shoes that do not have metal cleats, protective gear that does not pose an unfair advantage, and regulation bases for game play.
