Mark Martin and His Roush Racing Years

The professional race car driver known as Mark Martin is a 48 year old Arkansan that first started racing in his home state of Arkansas. Mark Martin currently drives a US Army Chevy Monte Carlo and has the #01 painted on his vehicle. Mark Martin drives for the DEI or Dale Earndhart Inc. team however; he was not with this group in the past and had, in fact, driven for another racing team in the early years of his career. Mark Martin saw his career flourish under the Roush Racing outfit and had a solid relationship with the team that lasted for 19 years.

Mark Martin started racing for Roush in 1988 after team and car owner Jack Roush spotted him a year before in Delaware after winning a Busch Series race there. During his years with the Roush team, Mark Martin would get to the 2nd spot in the rankings 4 times in the 19 years that he drove the #6 car for the team. He however remained short of the top prize and that was not due to his inability to win it. He also had a lot of success with the Busch Series under the Roush canopy, with 47 wins and 143 top tens to his credit.

The time that Mark Martin spent with the Roush team saw him closely winning but missing the championship every NASCAR driver aims for. Some of the losses were due to flukes, point penalties and other such things that take away a lot from his point standings. Today, Martin continues to drive the #01 car that he shares with Aric Almirola and is considered one of the top 50 race car drivers of all time by NASCAR, a distinction he shares with the late owner of the team he now drives for, Dale Earndhart Sr.
