The rather controversial move of the Milwaukee Braves to the city of Atlanta gave birth to another Major League team, the Milwaukee Brewers. After the Braves left the stadium, the people of the city did not consider starting another baseball team at that time, since they were still reeling over the loss of their beloved team. Soon, Bud Selig, one of the minority owners of the Braves, wanted to get a replacement in as soon as possible and the Milwaukee Brewers became that replacement.
The name Milwaukee Brewers comes from the ball club name that Selig used for the baseball ownership group that he was handling. He tried to get a pro baseball extension franchise for Milwaukee by attending numerous meetings and conferences. He finally got his wish when the Seattle Pilots became the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970. This was done with the Pilots not having much time to adjust to their new home, and with the new team name and new location being foisted on them in such a hurry, they had to wear their old uniforms with new Milwaukee Brewers patches attached to them. This showed just how little time the team had to make a clean transition, and this is how the Brewers got to use and retain the team colors of the Seattle Pilots, blue and gold, as their own.
The Milwaukee Brewers became a part of the American League's East Division in 1972, the same year that Den Crandall started managing the team. The team soon became known as a fun team to watch due to certain gimmicks that the owners implemented, like the playing of a Wurlitzer organ and the appearance of the Brewers mascots during the game. To date, the Brewers only have a single division title and a single pennant title to their credit, both obtained in 1982.
