New York: Home of the New York Giants

If you live in New York, chances are you have a thick skin, a thick accent, a highly developed taste for pizza, can whistle down a taxi and you are a Giants fan. Even though the New York Giants moved their stadium to New Jersey in 1976, fans from the Big Apple love their "big blue wrecking crew" all the same.

The New York Giants joined the National Football League in 1925. They played (and lost) their very first game against the Frankford Yellow Jackets in a time where football just started gaining popularity around the country. Since then, they've won six major titles including four NFL Championships and two Super Bowl Championships. In 1986 they beat the Denver Broncos in Pasadena at Super Bowl XXI under head coach Bill Parcells. The score was 39-20. In 1990, at Super Bowl XXV, they beat the Buffalo Bills in a close call at 20-19.

The official colors of the New York Giants are Royal Blue, red, gray and white. Stars include Quarterback Phil Simms and MVP award winning linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Other notable Giants include Mel Hein, Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly and YA Tittle. These guys helped earn the team nicknames including, the "Big Blue Wrecking Crew", "G-men", "Big Blue" and the "Jints".

In 1976, the team's owners decided to move the New York Giants to East Rutherford, New Jersey. While the stadium is literally 7 miles away from downtown Manhattan, the move itself caused quite a stir among avid New Yorkers. Today, residents of both New York and New Jersey claim rights to the Giants. Following the move, the team has often been referred to as the "Jersey Giants". Nevertheless, they are still considered a New York team by the Eastern Division.

Whatever side of the tunnel you call home, the New York Giants will always be a permanent fixture in the New York metropolitan area.
