The Story Behind the Famous New York Yankees

The New York Yankees actually began as a baseball team in Baltimore called the Baltimore Orioles. The original team was relocated to its new home in New York some years later, but it did not use the name New York Yankees from the start. The team actually used the name New York Highlanders in the beginning of its stay in the Big Apple until it was renamed New York Yankees ten years later in 1913.

The New York Yankees hold the record for being the most successful franchise that Major League Baseball has ever seen. The team holds 26 Major League World Series Championships as well as a record 39 pennants from the American League. Aside from this fantastic record in the Major League, the New York Yankees have also established themselves as the most successful franchise for any known North American professional sports club. They took this title away from the Montreal Canadians in the year 1999 after they won the World Series to mark the most professional wins by a sports club in the continent. This kind of a record by any professional sports team is pretty hard to surpass and it is made possible due to the wonderfully talented ballplayers that the team had year after year. Among the popular ballplayers the team had, the most outstanding and most famous are probably legendary sluggers Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth.

The New York Yankees have quite a strong fan base. The support that the fans show is pretty evident in the strong turnout of spectators every time there is a scheduled Yankees game anywhere in the nation. One such fan, Freddy Schuman, also known as Freddy Sez by other Yankee fans, has been supporting the team for 50 years now, and he can be easily seen whenever there is a Yankees game at home.
