A Glimpse at the Philadelphia Phillies, Oldest Baseball Franchises Around

One of the longest running franchises in professional baseball history is the team called the Philadelphia Phillies. The Philadelphia Phillies was created in 1883 under the original name of Philadelphia Quakers. The team's name got officially changed to the present day Philadelphia Phillies in 1889 although the name was being used by the team in conjunction with the Quakers name between 1883 and then. This team got the Phillies nickname from a shortened term of the word "Philadelphias" which eventually became the team's official name.

The Philadelphia Phillies actually tried changing their name in 1943 in an effort to create a new image for the team. However, such a change was short lived and the Philadelphia Blue Jays name disappeared after only two years of use. The Philadelphia Phillies went back to using the Phillies name and have been called that ever since. The team has since stayed with its better known name and seems to be aiming to keep using the old name for a very long time to come.

The team has been in the professional baseball scene for a very long time but did not make much of an impact when it came to winning until the beginning of the 1900s and more so in the mid 1970s. The Philadelphia Phillies have only one World Series title, won in 1980, but have quite a number of East Division titles and National League Pennants under their name. The Quakers began playing at Recreation Park upon its inception and has since moved from one stadium to another in the following years even before the official change in name. The other parks that saw the games of the Philadelphia Phillies being played include the Baker Bowl, the Connie Mack Stadium and the Veteran's Stadium. The team finally settled down in the Citizen's Bank Park in 2004 and has since played their home games there.
