The Seattle Mariners baseball team plays out of the Safeco Field, and it is owned by the gaming company Nintendo. This baseball team is also known as "the M's". It has yet to prove itself on the field since it does not have a World Series title or a pennant to its name. The Seattle Mariners is a Western Division member of Major League Baseball, and it is based in the beautiful marine community of Seattle, Washington.
The Seattle Mariners baseball team is actually pretty young, considering that most professional baseball teams began way back in the beginning of the 1900s. There were efforts to create a Major League baseball team in Seattle by William Daley way back in 1965 when he wanted to move the Cleveland Indians to Seattle but was denied of such a request. Undaunted, Daley again tried to get a pro-baseball team to play out of Seattle in the year 1967. This effort was to get the Seattle Pilots to start playing in the 1969 expansion of the league. The Seattle Pilots did play in the 1969 season but they were sold to Milwaukee in the 1970 season due to poor performance.
The Seattle Mariners were started due to the backlash of these events. The team was born out of a lawsuit that concerned parties in the State of Washington filed against the American League. This lawsuit was settled with an expansion franchise for Seattle in 1976 and the Seattle Mariners began playing for the city in 1977. Today, the team still has not won a major title in the American League although it has won a few Western Division championships in the past with the latest one being in 2001 against the Cleveland Indians, the team that Daley wanted to bring to Seattle in the past.
