Forming the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears football team of Chicago, Illinois is a member of the North Division of the National Football Conference. They are currently the National Football Conference Champions, after winning the 2006 Natinal Football Conference Championship Game.

The Bears have won nine Professional American Football league championships, eight National Football League Championships and they won Super Bowl XX. Their record only falls behind the Green Bay Packers, who have twelve National Football League Championships. The Bears have the most players voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with twenty six members.

The club was founded in Decatur, Illinois, in 1919 and moved to Chicago in 1921. Along with the Arizona Cardinals, it is one of two existing franchises since the National Football League's formation. The team played home games at Wrigley Field on Chicago's North Side through the 1970 season. In 1971 they moved their team to Soldier Field where they have played all their home games since. The stadium is located next to Lake Michigan and was recently remodeled and modernized with the intention to bring the stadium amenities up-to-date while preserving the historic Chicago feeling. The Chicago Bears has a fierce, long-standing rivalry with the Green Bay Packers, whom they have played in over 170 games. The Chicago Bears' rivalry with the Green Bay Packers is one of the oldest and most storied in American professional sports, dating back to 1921. In 1922, the Chicago Bears team moved into Wrigley Field, which was home to the Chicago Cubs baseball franchise. This is when they were named the Bears. As with several early National Football franchises, the Bears derived their nickname from their city's baseball team, the Cubs.

Many great football players have played for the Chicago Bears. There was runningback Walter Payton, Dick Btkus and Gale Sayers to name a few. Of course there was head coach Mike Ditka who added spice to the Chicago Bears as their head coach for years.
