Cleveland Cavaliers: The NBA Expansion Team from Ohio

Also known as the Cavs, the Cleveland Cavaliers is a basketball team that is based in the city of Cleveland in Ohio. The Cleveland Cavaliers began playing professional basketball in 1970 as part of the NBA's Central Division. Also a part of the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers have not won a single conference title in the past 30 plus years until 2007 when they bagged the conference championships against the Detroit Pistons after coming back from a 0-2 game standing. The Cleveland Cavaliers however lost their first try at NBA greatness when they were easily defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in a 4-0 series.

The Cleveland Cavaliers only won one other championship other than the Eastern Conference Finals that they won in 2007. This is the 1976 Central Division Championship where they defeated the Washington Bullets in a 4-3 series. The team then bowed out of the Eastern Division contest to the legendary Boston Celtics after their Central Division win. This shows that the Cavs are not as strong a team as their more seasoned opponents, the Celtics.

The Cleveland Cavaliers called the Cleveland Arena their home court in the past as well as the Coliseum at Richfield but now plays their home games at the Quicken Loans Arena, which is also called the Gund Arena in honor of the former Cavs owner Gordon Gund. The team has also seen a few notable names passing through its halls and lending their talents to the team. Some of the most memorable names that have worn the Cavs jersey include Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond, Ron Harper, Mark Price, Shawn Kemp, and of course, LeBron James to name but a few. The current Cleveland Cavaliers are Kings of the East, wearing the gold, navy blue, wine and white colors that are representative of the team.
