The Failed 2006 Attempt of the Dallas Mavericks for NBA Greatness

The Dallas Mavericks is basketball team that plays out of the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas and is a team that belongs to the Southwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball League or the NBA. The Dallas Mavericks was founded in 1980 and has since been trying to bag an NBA Championship title. They almost succeeded in 2006 when the Dallas Mavericks found themselves in the Finals of NBA games.

The Dallas Mavericks had a pretty tough time trying to get a spot in the NBA Finals and with the 2005-2006 season, they saw their chance. After defeating the Grizzlies, the team from Dallas had to face the Spurs in the second round of the Playoffs. The Mavs, as the Dallas Mavericks are sometimes called, went on to defeat the Spurs in some of the most exciting games of the season with a seven game series that was constantly going into overtime. The team then went on to face the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference finals. The Suns lost to the Mavs in game 6 of the Conference Finals and the Dallas Mavericks got their first ever shot at the NBA Championship title for 2006.

The Finals of the NBA Championship saw the Dallas Mavericks meeting with the Miami Heat, the team that had Shaquille O'Neal in its roster. The finals proved to be disappointing to the fans of the Dallas Mavericks as the team lost their 2 game win advantage after a string of mistakes brought the Mavs down and the Heat to victory. This upset had fans blaming a few of the team's officials, blaming player suspensions and tantrums as all reasons for the lost chance. The loss of the team to the Heat is only the third of its kind in history where a team losses to an opponent after a 2 game lead in the finals.
