The Houston Rockets successfully captured two NBA Championship titles and they couldn't have done it at a better time. At the end of the 1993 season, after the Chicago Bulls won their first three-peat, Michael Jordan announced retirement after his father's death which left the Bulls without a powerful player and the Houston Rockets saw this as a chance to rise to the top. The Houston Rockets did just that and more with the league lacking a hero to latch on to after the fall of the Bulls, the Rockets gave fans what they needed.
The Houston Rockets first shot to the top of the NBA pile when they made it to the 1993-1994 season playoffs and defeated the New York Knicks in the Finals to walk away with the top prize. This was a hard fought battle, however, with the championship series reaching 7 games. The outstanding play of Hakeem Olajuwon in the final two games of the 1994 NBA Finals gave the Houston Rockets the last two wins they needed to secure the title for themselves and they went home that year with a championship ring on their finger and the distinction of being the 1994 NBA Finals Champions.
The following year saw the Houston Rockets struggling at the beginning of the season. With the added pressure of the previous year's win hanging over them like a dagger, the Houston Rockets tried their best to make it to the playoffs and the conference finals. They saw themselves going against the Utah Jazz in the first round and the San Antonio Spurs in the second round, both teams bowing out to the underdogs, the Rockets. The Finals was a shoo-in since the Rockets beat the Orlando Magic in 4 straight games to capture their first back-to-back NBA Champion title.
