The Phoenix Suns and the Charles Barkley Saga

The team that plays out of Phoenix, Arizona's US Airways Center is the basketball team called the Phoenix Suns. The Phoenix Suns is a team that has been part of the NBA since 1968 and has been considered one of the more solid contenders for the league's titles. The Phoenix Suns still has yet to win an NBA Championship title but that does not remove the fact that they once were one of the strongest teams around and this could be attributed to one of the best ballplayers that the team had ever had, Charles Barkley.

When you mention the Phoenix Suns, it is but natural that the name of Charles Barkley comes to mind. This power forward is one of the key players of the 90s and is a recipient of an MVP award in 1993 due to his outstanding game play for the team. Charles Barkley first joined the Phoenix Suns through a trade that had him moving to Arizona and three players from the Suns moving to his former team, the Sixers.

The very same year that Barkley got traded to the Phoenix Suns, the team saw itself being propelled forward with the help of a few other key players like Dan Majerle, Kevin Johnson and Danny Ainge. The Suns saw their second Finals in franchise history and was all set to face the defending champions that year, the Chicago Bulls. The exciting finals saw Charles Barkley facing the more popular Michael Jordan and his troops and this pairing gave people one of the most memorable NBA finals in history. The 6 game win of the Bulls was not an easy one for them with a record triple-overtime happening in the third game of the series. The Championship ended in the loss of the Phoenix Suns to the formidable Bulls with a score of 4-2.
