The Pittsburgh Pirates is a professional baseball team that has a rather impressive list of accomplishments. This list of accomplishments that the Pittsburgh Pirates have to their credit is the kind of list that a lot of other teams can probably only dream of achieving and are currently trying to follow. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a number of division and pennant titles to their name but what is most impressive about this baseball team is the number of World Series Championships that they have earned.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have won five World Series Titles, the first of which being gained in 1909. This World Series win was then repeated in 1925, and again in 1960. The fourth and fifth Major League World Series Championship wins of the Pittsburgh Pirates came in 1971 and in 1979. These wins are part of the team's victories that include the nine East Division Titles they have and the nine National League Pennants that they also earned through the years.
While the Pittsburgh Pirates did win these titles in the past, the present day team has yet to prove that they can live up to the winning ways of their predecessors. The last win that the Pittsburgh Pirates ever had was in 1992 when they got the Eastern Division title for that year. To date, the team has been suffering from a losing streak that has lasted a whopping 15 years and the people behind the team keep on trying to get out of such a dilemma with trades and management changes. In 2007, the "Buccos" got themselves a new team president in the form of Frank Coonelly. Also included in the new management team are John Russel as team manager and Neal Huntington as general manager. This was done in the hopes that the Pirates will once again add to the long list of achievements that they accomplished decades ago.
