Is the Seattle SuperSonics Leaving Seattle in the Future?

The Seattle SuperSonics professional basketball team has been sold to a new owner in 2006 and speculations are high that the new owner will be moving the team to a new location. The Seattle SuperSonics were sold to a business man from Oklahoma, Clay Bennett, to the tune of $350 million. This sale of the Seattle SuperSonics came about as a result of the arguments that passed between the city and the city's basketball club concerning the renovation and repair of the stadium and court where the Seattle SuperSonics play their games.

The disagreement ended in the sale to the new owner and the probability that the Seattle SuperSonics will soon be calling another city their new home is pretty high. The arguments and debates that flew between the new owner and the city of Seattle had the team staying in Seattle for a few more years. This is due to the fact that the city and the team had signed a lease for the use of the KeyArena until 2010 and the new owner of the Seattle SuperSonics has to honor such a contract before he can even think of moving the team elsewhere.

The 2010 deadline is fast approaching for the Seattle SuperSonics and whether or not they remain in the city that was featured in the movie Sleepless in Seattle remains to be seen. The speculations are that Bennett will indeed try to move the team to Oklahoma or someplace else due to the disagreements with the politicians of the city. There are also those who say that as savvy a businessman as Bennett is, he will not move the team to a place that will make him lose instead of earn money and that Seattle is still the best place for the Seattle SuperSonics where this is concerned.
