One of the legends in NASCAR's history is NASCAR race car driver Bobby Labonte's older brother and former two-time Winston Cup Champion, Terry Labonte. Terry Labonte is one of the members of the Labonte family who is a fixture on the NASCAR circuits and is part of the NASCAR top 50 greatest drivers of all time. Terry Labonte is also a hall of fame inductee for the National Quarter Midget's Hall of Fame and two-time IROC champion. With these achievements under his belt, it is no wonder that his son is now a Busch Series contender and his younger brother is considered one of the best professional race car drivers in the business.
The family of Terry Labonte got interested in racing when Terry tried his hand at quarter midget racing. He started at the very young age of seven and consequently won his first national championship title at the age of 9 years. As a teenager, he began racing stock cars and started winning in those too in 1975 and 1977. By 1978, Terry Labonte had his first taste of NASCAR racing and qualified for a Rookie of the Year award a year later, garnering only the third slot for the honor. Pretty soon, Terry Labonte became a strong contender for the Winston Cup and finally got his hands on the coveted prize in 1984 and once again in 1996.
This racing heritage cannot be easily denied and found itself in the blood of two of the people closest to him, his younger brother and his son, Justin. These two men share the same passion that Terry Labonte has for racing and the talent and drive to get to the top of the pile, so to speak. This makes the Labonte family one of the prominent racing families in America.
