The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are a baseball team that plays out of the Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, Florida and it is a team that was born at the tail-end of the last century and the last millennium. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays was established in 1998 and it is considered one of the youngest franchises in Major League baseball.
While the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are indeed a very young baseball team, it does not mean that baseball does not have a past in the Tampa Bay area. The Tampa Bay area has been the home for spring training for a lot of the Major League teams since 1922, with a lot of the more notable ball clubs coming to Tampa just for that reason. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are nicknamed the D-Rays and this has stayed with the team for the whole time that the team has been using the Devil Rays name. These days, the team is being prepped to use a new nickname to coincide with a change in name from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to the shorter name of ‘Tampa Bay Rays', and this new nickname is the "Rays".
Along with the new name of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays come a new uniform, a new logo and a new zeal for creating a good name for the team. There are also talks of building a new stadium for the new Tampa Bay Rays and this project is still in the planning stage with an estimated cost of $450 million dollars and a seating capacity of 35,000. The approval for such a project and such a move is still dependent on the votes of the people who are living around the site of the proposed stadium and the government of Tampa Bay.
