Who exactly is Ward Burton and what role does he play in NASCAR? Ward Burton is one of the many men who sit behind the wheel of the cars that you see whizzing by on a NASCAR track and has 5 NASCAR Nextel Series race wins to his name so far. The 46 year old Ward Burton is a native of South Boston in Virginia. Ward Burton was born in 1961 on October 25 and is the driver of the #4 car that is sponsored by State Water Heaters. He is not the only Burton to be on the NASCAR track however, since he shares that distinction with his younger brother, Jeff Burton.
Ward Burton races for the Morgan-McClure Motorsports team and while he is a pretty good race car driver, he still has to see himself winning some of the top prizes in the NASCAR circuit, like the Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series and the Nextel Cup Series. While Ward Burton has not competed in the Truck Series, he has had a lot of experience and races in the Nextel Cup and Busch Series. The best position that the older Burton ever got in the Busch series is a 6th place rank in 1993 and the best one he got for a Nextel Cup series is 9th place in 1999.
While Ward Burton still has very little awards to his name, it does not stop him from pursuing his dream of getting a Nextel Cup Championship to his name. He is now slated to drive the number 27 car that is sponsored by Kleenex and a Ford Fusion in the next season of the Busch Series and going to be driving fro Brewco Motorsports.
Outside of the track, Ward Burton is an avid conservationist and sportsman and this has prompted him to found a Wildlife Foundation under his name. He is also a board member of one of the councils in his State of Virginia aimed at regulating hunting and fishing.
