How the Washington Wizards Tried to Use the Jordan Magic

The Washington Wizards is an old basketball team that has been around since 1961 however, it has gained notoriety for being one of Michael Jordan's valiant yet unappreciated efforts. The debacle began when Michael Jordan became president of the team as well as a minority owner of the Washington Wizards. The ownership and presidency of the Washington Wizards did not truly satisfy Jordan's love for the game of basketball and he took himself out of retirement in 2001 to go back to playing at the age of 38.

While Michael Jordan was still a pretty formidable player, and in fact he greatly improved the standings of the Washington Wizards that same year, age and inactivity finally caught up with the basketball star. He was put on the list of injured players of the Washington Wizards for the rest of the season due to a knee problem and waited out the rest of the season on the bench. The 2002- 2003 season promised to be a better year with Jordan planning on playing backup to his Washington Wizards teammates. His plan however, did not materialize as he thought and he found himself playing in the starting lineup to make up for the injured players and the lackluster performance of his teammates.

The following year, Michael Jordan was sacked as president of the team. This led to the betrayed feeling of the star and the departure from the team. Since Jordan was expecting to regain the ownership he let go in the beginning of the 2001 season after he returned to his retired status, he was devastated by the turn of events and left the team altogether. After Jordan's departure from the Washington Wizards, the team eventually lost all its magical quality, making fans and the media drop all of the attention they used to give the team.
